The mission of the Sunnyside Sustainable Committee is helping residents reduce their fossil fuel consumption. Why are we doing this? Because our planet’s air, water and land are being degraded by the pollution generated from burning fossil fuels. Because carbon dioxide, which is generated from the burning of fossil fuels, is a major component linked to the rapid overheating of our Planet. Because present rates of fossil fuel consumption are not sustainable. Because the future of Sunnyside, Oregon and Earth depends on it.

In 2008, the Sustainability Committee is focusing our efforts on reducing energy consumption. In the future we will dedicate our efforts to Transportation, Construction, Sustainable Businesses, Resource Consumption, Waste Generation & Recycling, and Education/Presentation/Outreach. If you would like to join our group, please attend our meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm at Sunnyside Elementary School (SE 34th & Salmon St.)

‘…the earth belongs to each generation during its course, fully and in its own right, no generation can contract debts greater than may be paid during the course of its own existence.” Thomas Jefferson
